Avalea | Harp
What made Avalea choose the harp?
When Avalea was around 3yrs old, she watched YouTube videos of young girls playing various instruments, in the hope to discover the instrument she was most interested in. When she saw the harp for the first time, and a little girl playing it so graciously, she was instantly mesmerised. It was then that she said wants to play the harp too as she believes it’s an instrument for little princesses. She has loved the harp ever since for being such a beautiful, unique and royal instrument (which she says represents her).
What kind of music (songs or exercises) does Avalea enjoy playing and why?
Avalea really enjoys practising her technical exercises. She also particularly enjoys learning & playing songs she can sing along to, including classical Disney songs.
How has Avalea's performance anxiety changed over the years?
Avalea used to be a shy girl who didn’t feel comfortable performing in front of a crowd. Over the years, however, thanks to Miss Eliza’s gentle and patient teaching style and guidance, Avalea has gained a lot of confidence and now loves playing the harp in front of a crowd, she particularly enjoys the performance element to music as she sees it as her moment to shine.
What is Avalea's favourite thing about her harp lessons?
Avalea’s favourite thing about harp lessons is meeting Miss Eliza each week, and showing her with great enthusiasm what she has learnt the past week. Avalea particularly loves the fact that Miss Eliza is so approachable, makes the lessons as fun as possible with all sorts of theory games, and is such kind & understanding teacher who has become more like a friend to her.
Avalea had online lessons for a few months whilst living overseas ... tell us about this experience?
Avalea absolutely loved being able to continue harp lessons with Miss Eliza whilst we were living overseas. Miss Eliza was super supportive in offering online lessons, and her flexibility and creativity made these lessons very enjoyable for Avalea, despite being from a distance. Avalea particularly enjoyed the consistency of the lessons and the fact that Miss Eliza adapted to online teaching so well, including using whiteboard instead of paper when it came to explaining theory.
