Music gift ideas for kids

It’s December! Which means … yes, it’s that time of the year when kids expect to see presents for them under the tree. We know exactly how hard it can be to find presents year after year after year. So we have compiled a list of really awesome gifts, of a range of types and to suit all sorts of budgets for the musically-minded kid!

  1. Ticket to an event, show or concert

Instead of a material thing, why not give your kid an experience? It’s the perfect excuse to get out of the house and spend some time together. Experiences have the power of inspiring young kids. It can show them what is possible. Check free events in your local community or look up more established institutions such as the WA Symphony Orchestra, Perth Symphony Orchestra or the Crown for big-scale events.

  2. A tuning accessory

Playing an instrument that is out of tune is never pleasant. It can downright kill motivation because the music we make sounds bad (through no fault of our own!). An electronic tuner makes for a great, useful gift for harpists, while guitarists might prefer a clip-on tuner. For pianists, you might prefer to book in a professional to come tune the piano.

  3. A cool music bag

Kids who learn music will often have a lot of books to carry to and from lessons. There’s the danger of misplacing or forgetting one! So why not get them a nice bag for them to carry their music books in? Check out these options on Amazon!

  4. A display book

Having a folder keeps any loose music sheet (and let’s admit it - there will always be photocopied music, music theory worksheets to print out) in one safe place. Officeworks has a great range of display books.

  5. A book of sheet music

Head to a music shop and buy a book of sheet music. Students love anything Disney related or Studio Ghibli music. If you know who their favourite artist is, purchase their song book. Learning a new piece can be their summer holiday challenge!

  6. Merch of their favourite band or music artist

Does your child have any favourite singer or band? If so, head over to their website and purchase some merch. Many singers will have shirts, posters, bags and all sorts of weird and wonderful merch up for sale.

  7. Cheap percussion instruments

There are all sorts of cheap percussion instruments that exist out there that can provide oodles of fun and creativity for such a low price. We love, for example, handbells, maracas, a glockenspiel, occarinas … Check out different cheap instruments on Temu for some ideas.

  8. Registration to our music camp

Another type of experience you can offer your child is attendance at a music camp! Did you know we are actually holding a music camp over 2 days in January? Your child will get to learn more about music, play instruments, sing, and make a whole lot of awesome friends! Find out more about our camp here.

  9. An upgraded instrument

Say good-bye to the old guitar, the harp that’s too small, the piano that’s out of tune and has 5 keys not working properly. Time for a better instrument! Christmas is the perfect time to make an upgrade to your child’s instrument.

  10. A new instrument

Or, if you’ve got the budget, why not get them a totally new instrument they have never played before? Has your child shown an interest in a different instrument? Maybe now is the time to get them started with it!
