Sebastian | Piano

Almost two years after starting piano lessons, Sebastian has already done an exam and multiple performances. Let’s learn a little bit more about his piano journey thus far!

What kind of music (songs or exercises) do you enjoy playing on the piano and why?

I mostly enjoy playing fast songs without too many right hand changes.

You completed your preliminary grade piano exam earlier this year. How much preparation did that take, what did you have to prepare/learn for it and what did you learn from this experience?

I had lots of preparation for it and was only practicing those songs for the term. I think I learnt that you have to focus on one or two songs per practice so that you improve as much as possible. I also learnt how to do my scales a lot smoother.

What do you find are the easiest and hardest things about learning piano?

I think the hardest thing about learning piano is trying to move to the right notes at a fast pace. I think the easiest part about learning piano is reading the notes.

What is your favourite thing about piano lessons?

My favourite thing about piano lessons is that I can start new songs and improve more at ones I am currently practicing.

What are some goals or pieces that you are currently working on?

I am learning three pieces: Leap frog (a piece with lots of staccato notes and left hand crossing over the right), Running in the Night and Invasion. I am also practising the 2 octave C major scale hands together.

What is your proudest moment or achievement as a pianist?

I felt most proud when I played my own version of the theme from Top Gun Maverick at the old people’s home back in July.

Awesome work, Sebastian! We hope you continue making impressive progress at the piano!
